Here is a story that may help you understand a bit more of the hidden depression and pain that Dani, the inspiration behind 33 Forever endured.
These are pictures of the love of Dani’s life. I can hear Dani tell me, “Mom, please remember Greg today. It’s his special day.”
11-3, a date I never will forget. It was her password forever. It’s the birth date of the person that made Danielle so happy. Her eyes lit up with him. “Jeff,” she would say, “I finally am dating a BMW-not a Pinto!”🤣 (Jeff, her stepdad, often compared the dates of our girls to cars to remind them to strive for the very best for themselves.) We spent a lot of time in their company, loving the woman our daughter had become and looking forward to a lifetime of more moments like these.
Tragically for Dani, and so many of us, she lost the love of her life in June of 2011. It was the most crushing and paralyzing time of her life. I always thought we could write a Nicholas Sparks book on their beautiful yet heartbreaking love story, but instead we choose to focus on the man who Dani loved and who loved her.
Losing Greg made a huge impact on her psyche, of course, yet her resilience was right under the surface ready to kick in. Instead of Danielle staying curled up in a ball at our house, she chose to move back to her world in Florida, go to work with one of Greg’s friends and ultimately make something even more beautiful of her life. Something that she (and Greg) would be proud of.
Dani’s fearlessness, tenacity, resilience, strength and courage was something she had to fight through every single day of her life from June of 2011 until the day we lost her to her own battle with depression.
It was during that time frame when Dani truly became my hero. She became an example to me and so many others to pick up the fragments of life and do everything in your power to make a difference in this world. As Dani built her career with a brand new company, she ultimately grew to managing over 300 people, mentoring and empowering woman to be the best they could be, and not let the circumstances of their life define them. Although there was always a huge hole in her heart, I didn’t realize until losing her how big the hole actually could be.
The point of all we share is to help raise awareness for mental health for those that may either have similar struggles as Dani or of other stories people share with us.
It is vital that you see through the mask they have learned to wear so well, and intervene if necessary to get them help. Don’t lose them.
We always want you to celebrate your loved one here on earth.
However, today we say “Happy Heavenly Birthday Greg. May you and Dani enjoy the happiness and peace you both deserve and have finally found in eternity.”
